Why Would Anyone Paint Their Cat?
74
I was told today about a bizarre trend where people get their pet cats painted, often costing up to $15,000 each time, and needing to be repeated every three months as the cat's hair grows out.
The pictures that I was shown to go along with this information were both brilliant and weird. I have decided to post a load of these pictures here so that you can see for yourselves just how strange a painted cat can look and let me know if you think this is right or wrong or just plain funny.
I have to admit some of the artwork used to decorate these poor cats is very clever, but not one of them looks too happy about the situation, (apart from the one with a painted smile on it's face lower down). Somehow I can't imagine ever doing this to my cats, or paying a total of around $60,000 per year to keep it 'topped up'.
I feel truly sorry for the cat in the picture above as it looks like it wants to throw itself into the pool to end it's own humiliation.
Then there is the next picture but one down, where the unfortunate creature has had it's butt painted, how totally embarrassing for a cat is that???
The next three pictures illustrate how pets really can end up looking like their owners, although not necessarily by choice.
The following two pictures are cats also looking like their owners, no doubt against their wishes as their owners have truly 'lost the plot'.
The third picture makes the sad little pussy have to smile much like the 'Joker' in Batman, and looked pleased at it's appearance even if it hates it.
The fourth picture I kind of like, simple but effective and great for Halloween.
The first picture below looks like the cat has a nasty disease.
The second picture has got to the most humiliating of all for any cat.
The third picture, OMG the aliens have landed, get out that a**l protector such as the egg slicer or cheese grater!!!
What do you think about painting your cats?

I have never even heard of this, much less seen pictures, and I am astounded. I have to admit that some of them truly look incredible, but WTF? Money issues aside, are there any vets or animal specialists speaking out regarding whether or not this is harmful to the cat? Maybe some psychiatrists have something to say about humans that would do this? As I said, some of the work is impressive and amazing, but I can't help feeling that it is wrong. How does the cat clean itself?
Interesting hub!
Misty - I nearly did a hub on this myself! GMTA, hmm? I researched it though for some juicy tidbits and discovered that these cats were in fact all photoshopped and not really painted these lovely colors. Shame...
I forget the publication, but it was some tongue in cheek coffee table book. Great for a laugh, but it looks like I won't have to be taking my cats in for that designer look any time soon.
Now if you want another good laugh (at a cat's expense) check this out. It's just a taste of what the original site was like...and it garnered so much hate mail from animal lovers that it was taken down even though it was just a prank done by an MIT student. I remember the original...and even though I love animals...I laughed my ass off...
For sure Misty! The first time I ever saw them was in an email and I thought...my god! Is there no end to a person's vanity that they would do that to their cat?! And then of course I thought ... hmmm...Mojo would look really cool as a skeleton. :)
But if they can airbrush a model so that you don't see her cellulite...I guess they can make a cat look believable.
Incredibly stupid people paint their cats. :)
My cat's beautiful the way he is.
But now I see they are photoshopped. But I wouldn't put it past people. After all, there are people out there who dye their dogs pink...
I think they might be photoshopped only because I have never had a cat that would be likely to hold still for this kind of thing. But a good job of photoshopping.
The smiling one is just creepy, but the butterfly one was kind of neat.
A couple of them I have seen the original pictures, so definitely are photoshopped. Great hub, though! And an even better commentary on silly pet people, because of the photoshopping!
Well, that's a relief. Now I feel kind of stupid for falling for it, but it is a good job of photo shopping (like ugly baby). In that case, I think it's hysterical!
OMG, am SO glad it's photoshopping. Your captions nearly made me pee myself, though. :)
hahahhaa i totally fell for it. this whole time i was thinking to myself "how did they ever get the cats to sit still?" but then of course, i was like "oh yea, they put them to sleep".. but still... i know ppl would do it but for $15k??? sheesh. i have to admit, the zebra striped cats are really cute lol.
Glad to hear they were only photoshopped! The indignity of it all!!!
Oops, I nearly fell for that. I'd just posted an indignant comment when I saw it was a spoof. What a relief. Trouble is it was believable cos some people really are that vain and stupid.
wow! well, cat's need to be fashionable also! really cute!
The book is probably funny and even more funny is some people thought it was paint. That is sad that people could not tell it was photo shopped pics. That is so obviously seen in looking at them.
The only cat paintings or painted cat page i think is of course real is http://www.facepaint.ws
The cat is really funny but, the lady also is pretty cool. That is what she says to be german paints she uses.
looks like I made a hub on this also.I found my photos on other sites and didn't see your site until you pointed it out.oops
It's cute but wrong.

I think there are a lot of other ways that you can spend money on your cat that the cat would really love.
Like its own mouse fantasyland or something like that.
