A good friend of mine sent me this story in the form of an email today, and I found the images so amazing and touching, that I wanted to share the story with all of you. If you thought Polar Bears are totally vicious, you might reconsider your opinion after viewing this hub.

If you don't already think animals are far more spiritually advanced than we humans, think again. Stuart Brown describes Norbert Rosing's striking images of a wild polar bear coming upon tethered sled dogs in the wilds of Canada's Hudson Bay. (see above image)

The photographer was sure that he was going to see the end of his dogs when the polar bear wandered in..

This is genuine, the Polar Bear has made no effort to try and harm the dogs, but is in fact interacting with them in a playful manner, and what's more, the dogs are clearly not intimidated at all.
Surely this is the last thing any of us would expect to have happened when a Polar Bear came across a number of dogs, chained up and unable to escape their fate if he had tried to make a meal of them, Clearly even Polar Bears need some fun time, and not always with their own kind!
The Polar Bear returned every night that week to play with the dogs.

Mind blowing is right! The pictre that gets to me the most is the one with the polar bear rolled over on his back exposing his belly to the dog. THAT, as you know, is a sign of ultimate trust. I'm absolutely blown away! :D

Hmmm…? How close do you think the photographer was to the bear. Within feet, unless s/he had abandoned his/her dogs -- and that's unlikely.
Pretty neat photos, but I doubt they were taken in the wild. Unless someone had just fed the bear a bunch of seal steaks.

What about zoom lenses Bruce, and I can't imagine a situation where you would have both snow, a tame Polar Bear and a team of sled dogs all in the same environment, even staged this would be really hard to achieve. Plus the photographers name is given, which would be traceable, so unlikely to be taken in captivity or staged I reckon. Thanks for commenting though. :)

Wow, this is awesome. Just yesterday I was watching the 7 wonders of the world on TV and it took my breath away, and now I get to see photos like this. Staged or not, the visuals and message is beautiful.

You really did make my day. There's a fresh, thick covering of snow outside this morning, and it doesn't take too much imagination to see polar bears and sled dogs frolicking in it!

Yes that is so true. I always feel in some ways animals are better than humans at least they don't kill for fun unlike the hunting hobby of some humans. Good touching hub and great pictures.

Gaia in action. This actually brings tears to my eyes. I reminds me of what we are doing to life on Earth. Perhaps it would be best for us to just go ahead and leap into extinction and leave the world to the creatures that know how to live here.
I agree in so many ways ColdWarBaby. I feel the best thing that can happen to the planet is for a disease, (human specific#0, to come along and wipe us out so nature can put the planet back into balance again.

Fantastic shots but I think it is staged, the first picture shows completely different dogs showing aggression towards the polar bear, the rest of the pictures is of one polar bear and the one dog (the same in all pictures) playing, probably hand reared polar bear who had grown up with the dog, still nice pictures.
