Armpit hair on women. Do you love it or hate it?

By

A little while ago I wrote a couple of lighthearted articles called The Top 10 Passion Killers for Men and The Top 10 Passion Killers for Women. Never could I have guessed the amount of comments I would receive on one of the passion killers listed in my top 10 passion killers for men article, and that was 'armpit hair on women'. It seems that there are still a fair few people both male and female, who think there is nothing horrible about hairy armpits on a woman at all, and that any resulting odour is only a natural woman smell. That said, I also received a large amount of comments supporting the idea that armpit hair is not nice, and that it encourages body odour, as well as being very unattractive. This is what has prompted me to write this short article, mainly in order to get a better idea through a poll, of whether the majority of people (male or female) think armpit hair on a woman is nice or nasty. Of course I could simply have added a poll to the original article, but I felt that to do that would detract from the other things on the list it contained, therefore it would be far better to create a new topically focused article instead. Here is the result!

The Case For Armpit Hair

The case for armpit hair on women appears to consist of a few regular statements made by commenters on the subject, (I have say some some of these comments put forward a very doubtful argument and I don't agree with many of them) :

  • Armpit hair is natural and should therefore be left alone
  • Any associated odour is only the 'natural smell of a woman'
  • Women need armpit hair
  • Hairy armpits on a woman are sexy
  • Hairy armpits are a sign of health and confidence
  • Hairy armpits on a woman are a 'turn on' for men
  • Any man refusing a date with a girl because she displays hairy pits is immature and does not deserve a girlfriend
  • Armpit hair is a sign of maturity
  • Women with armpit hair are confident intelligent people
  • Shaving increases the likelihood of developing ingrown hairs

The Case Against Armpit Hair

The case against armpit hair on women as made by commenters consists largely of statements such as:

  • Hairy armpits trap sweat resulting in body odour
  • Armpit hair on ladies looks horrible
  • Men mostly find women with hairy armpits a turn off
  • Hairy armpits look masculine
  • Greek statues of women in antiquity had no pubic hair, suggesting that hairlessness was an ideal of feminine beauty
  • It is part of the Western Culture for women to have shaven armpits
  • "Not many men when they first meet a girl go for the yetti look"
  • It's just part of living in civilised society
  • "I think a woman's armpit area is a very sensual place, and not shaving it takes away from that"
  • "I would not want to be with a woman that looks like she is smuggling Chewbacca (from Star Wars) under her arm."
  • Armpit hair is no longer required because we are gradually evolving and losing our body hair. We no longer need it for warmth because we have clothes
  • Certain religions call for women to be clean shaven

So now you have an idea of the two schools of thought on the subject of armpit hair on women it is your turn to vote on what you think. I hope that over the coming months we will begin to see a general consensus of opinion via the poll results below, and this will give us a far better idea of what the majority think about women with armpit hair. I look forward to seeing the results the polls begin to produce as the days go on, not that it will change the way I operate, I am definitely in the 'hair free armpits' club.

Just Ask Susan 3 months ago

Personally I think armpit hair on women is unattractive but that's me. Some people think that hair on a mans face is unattractive. I think its all just a matter of personal preference. Interesting hub though.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks Just Ask Susan. I am with you on the 'unattractive' comment. I think it looks pretty horrible and very untidy. Not over keen on facial hair on men either, but more because I find it prickles and tickles your nose when you kiss them, plus it has the potential for food, tobacco smells etc to get trapped in the hair.

Brianna Stuart 3 months ago

I hate it! lol I honestly wish women didn't grow armpit hair, it's uneeded and very unattractive.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks for commenting Brianna, I agree with you :)

Justjed 3 months ago

I really detest it especially when these ladies wears sleeveless tops making it very obvious

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Justjed, I have got my comments set to 'pre-approval' which is why you couldn't see your first comment and must have thought it had vanished because you posted it twice more. I have deleted the second two because they were duplicates of the first comment.

Thanks for your comment, I totally agree with you. I always feel highly aware if I haven't shaved my underarms for a few days that I must wear long sleeves until I do. :)

Ted Mac 3 months ago

This is common is Europe

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

I know Ted, but the majority of people in the Western World still don't seem to like it, hence the reason for the poll on this hub, to gauge popular opinion. Strangely many people assume it is normal for women in France not to shave their armpit hair for instance, but apparently this is no longer true, and most French ladies do shave their armpit hair.

Justjed 3 months ago

I personally detest it especially when the armpit area is bushy and you still such ladies wearing sleeveless tops and seems not to care at all

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

I agree with you Justjed, it is horrible if you see this and it just makes my nose wrinkle up in disgust straight away.

diogenes 3 months ago

Women should stop shaving...everywhere. I like lots of pubic, underarm and head - hair. The more the merrier.

Natural is always best.

Bob

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Bob, nice to get your perspective on this as always (and I don't mean just pubic hair) :)

RealHousewife 3 months ago

Misty - first I was LOL! I like the chewbacca comment! I do not sport armpit hair - And don't like it. I don't care if other women have it - but personally - I shave every day. I know my husband would not like it if I stopped shaving. I'd hate for my armpits to look like his! Ew - but now that I thought that - it would be so weird if a guy did shave his under arms too! Lol

Cagsil 3 months ago

Hey Misty, I'm not interested in seeing armpit hair on a woman. It's unappealing to me. I can see how different women from different cultures were raised and I guess it goes to show something of that culture. I would disagree with the fact that women should stop shaving altogether. I mean, if all women stop shaving and men didn't shave either, then you would have an entire human species of very hairy people. And, I'm willing to bet that there would be even more diseases than there are now. Great hub! :)

Dave Mathews 3 months ago

Why would or should armpit hair bother me or anyone?

Hawkesdream 3 months ago

It is good to see others thoughts on this subject. Personally, I have never had the problem, armpit nor leg hair.

I did vote in your poll, though.

one2get2no 3 months ago

I am the complete opposite of Bob.....I like a woman to be hairless except on her head. Nice hub though....:)

VeronicaFarkas 3 months ago

I honestly do not like body hair at all... I have a difficult time with chest hair on men. lol Armpit hair is a no no in my book!

This is a very interesting hub, though! I applaud you for going there! ;)

ThoughtSandwiches 3 months ago

mistyhorizon...

My first instinct is to say I do not care for it. In that it has been quite sometime, however, as long as a girl is actually attached to those armpit hairs..I'm good.

Interesting Hub. I like to see how the different cultures respond to the idea within their cultural norms of idealized feminine beauty.

I'm hitting the UP button!

Thanks,

Thomas

Cardisa 3 months ago

I think armpit hair is grotesque on both men and women.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

wow, thanks all for the comments, I won't respond to them one by one as I am shattered right now. Best to let the poll results speak for themselves, but seriously, thanks all, the comments are great so far :)

colpolbear 3 months ago

Honestly, I don't think I could put up with it. The sad thing is that I fully believe there's no problem with it....I guess societal conditioning has just altered my perception of it way too much.

Rochelle Frank 3 months ago

No, I don't think it matters, except for personal preference.

Reminds me of a joke though, about how you can tell if an airplane is from an eastern European country.

Madurai 3 months ago

Why did you had this doubt..I hate the smell of armpit..I don't like...

sameer.anand 3 months ago

Quite a thoughtful hub mistyhorizon2003!

Sometimes the hair on women does look sexy and turning on but largely it doesn't suit most of them!

Like for example, it doesn't look good at all on girls under 25.

It largely depends upon the perspective of the person and it is clear from the various comments above!

But still, thank you very much for sharing the hub! :)

And yes you can stay with the resolution you made in your last comment! :)

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Of course you are right colpolbear, we have been conditioned to dislike the appearance of it, but once in that mindset I think it would be hard to go back to liking hairy armpits. I can't ever see a time in my life I would have them.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Rochelle, true, but what if one partner has no problem with it and the other one does? Do they just shave one armpit or something? lol.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Madurai, I am not in any doubt as to what the majority of people will think on this subject, but I wanted to illustrate this point to those who seem to doubt having armpit hair is really a turn off for men.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks Sameer, great thoughts, and don't worry, I will be sticking with the 'hair fee' option under my own armpits.

CJ Andrews 3 months ago

I have never dated anyone with armpit hair, but I have known females who do not shave and it has never bothered me.

It is the person's preference and I make a note of it - like what shirt they are wearing or what-not, but it doesn't excite me or disappoint me. I would have to say if my wife grew armpit hair the only thing that would really disturb me is if she stuck it in my face or something. I don't do this to people and I don't expect it done to me.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

LOL CJ, I now just have this mental image of you running around shoving your armpit hair in people's faces.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject here :)

RealHousewife 3 months ago

Misty - I'm laughing still at the comments. This was a brilliant hub:)

My 12 year old is home (sick - just returned from the doc) and she asked what I was laughing about, so I showed her your hub and read parts. Omg! Omg! All this time - she has been expecting chest hair and wondering when she would need to shave her chest like her legs and underarmsM LOL LOL. Thank you for helping me get her righted on that!

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

LOL, that is brilliant ReaHousewife, poor girl, I bet she is relieved to know a hairy chest in not very likely for her :)

Lone Ranger 3 months ago

Cindy:

There are only four regions on a woman's body where hair is acceptable: A woman's head, arms, eye-brows/lashes and nether region.

I remember once, years ago when I was a young Ranger, that I saw a woman wearing shorts in a grocery store. At first I thought she was a man. She was wearing white shorts, a yellow t-shirt, and had long curly hair.......all over her legs!!! I damn-near threw-up right there and then on aisle five. Twenty years later I can still see the image in my mind and it still makes me shudder.

Later on, and to my chagrin, I discovered my mother-in-law was a loyal adherent of the "European" look. Unfortunately, she had invited us over for lunch and while at the table stretched her hands heavenward exposing the brilliant black locks flourishing within the warm, moist region of her arm pits.

Needless to say, I began to choke on my food as a result, although it could have been the chicken bone lodged in the back of my throat. The bottom line is I couldn't eat another bite nor could I find it within myself to forgive her for the visual assault.

The fact is women are capable of growing hair in all the same places as men, but I don't think this is a feminist plot as much as it is nature's plan. Having said that, there is a difference between women who grow their hair modestly and in good taste, while there are others who like to prove to the world that they are capable of growing a dense mat all over their bodies.

Best wishes and be well - L.R.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks for the well thought out and informative comment L.R., I like the points you made in the last paragraph especially :)

Keng Wongwittawat 3 months ago

I think this base on where you live. People in my country don't like women with long armpit hair. In some countries, guys love them. I personally don't like them. It might because it what I've learned since I was a child.

SarahBodo 3 months ago

People have crazy likes. I can't stand a woman with bushy armpits, let alone legs! A woman is meant to be beautiful and smooth. The only place with hair should be the head.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Keng,

Thanks for your comment, very good point made :)

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

I agree with you Sarah, thanks for your comment :)

SanXuary 3 months ago

The older you get the more you hate hair except on your head.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

LOL SanXuary, good point :)

KDF 3 months ago

Gross...............armpit hair on a women is nasty. Furthermore, it's 10x worse when you goto the waterslide park and some women show it off, to each is own but preference lies with a razor!

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

I totally agree KDF, thanks for your feedback :)

Deborah Brooks 3 months ago

very interesting hub, I don't like arm pit hair on women.. Ugh!!.. but I do like hair on a man's face..

great hub

debbie

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks for commenting Debbie, I am afraid I don't like men with hairy faces either. Too many places for food and cigarette smoke etc to get trapped. The hairs also prickle and tickle when he kisses you (especially up your nose).

THEHuG5 3 months ago

I'm really surprised to see how many people could care less whether a woman has armpit hair or not. I personally detest armpit hair period whether it be on a man or a woman. It just seems so unnecessary and I hate how men just let it get all gross and out of control. I mean seriously, if you can braid it then it's time to shave it lol! But that's just me. People should do whatever makes them comfortable. Great and interesting hub!

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Thanks THEHuG5, funnily enough it doesn't worry me on a man so long as he showers when he has been doing anything that might have caused him to break into a sweat. I do agree that if you can braid it then it's time to shave though, (on either sex) lol.

fpherj48 3 months ago

I know that in many foreign countries, women do not shave. I also know I see it as unattractive, gross and unsanitary....extremely UNfeminine. Go ahead call me a puritanical sexist. No problem. The picture above speaks volumes. That's plain ugly.

I vote to stay with lots of thick, shiny hair on my head ONLY....clean-shaven legs and pits.

Pamela N Red 3 months ago

It's disgusting and shows a serious lack of hygiene and personal care. If she doesn't take care of her armpit hair she's probably unclean in other areas as well.

Pamela N Red 3 months ago

I've had mine lasered so I don't grow hair there anymore.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Totally agree fpherj48. Horrible at best.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Hi Pamela, I think it is horrible personally, although I guess many don't. I wish we could afford laser treatment where I live or I would have it done and save a fortune in shaving :)

Alastar Packer 3 months ago

Tend to agree with you Pamela. Never will forget the first sight of girls pulling their tops and pants off at the sea parties in Europe. Some of them were quite proud of their hairy underarms and legs. Made me wish I was back in America with the lady shavers.

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Scary stuff Alastar!

AEvans 3 months ago

My personal opinion is..... It is unattractive, I could not imagine having armpit hair. I remember going to the State Fair when I was 16 and this biker looking woman raised her arms and their was a BUSH under there! Lololo! I could not believe it. But there are some men who like it and it doesn't bother them at all. I believe it all depends on the person. :) Thumbs Up!

mistyhorizon2003 3 months ago

Agreed Julianna, I cringe just looking at the picture I used for this hub. It would look nice but for the hair!!!

I still think men who like armpit hair on women have a bit of a fetish for it personally, as I just don't understand how they could like it otherwise!!

Thanks for the thumbs up :)

TheMagician 2 months ago

It doesn't bother me (I'm a girl) but personally I like keeping them shaven. Not because of society (which really is ass backwards when it comes to stuff like this, haha) but because of hygiene and aesthetics. It just looks better shaven for me. Underarms, legs, and nether regions are shaven. I will NOT touch my arms though, and I've been unfortunate enough to have a bit more "peach fuzz" hair on my stomach and whatnot (I have dark hair so its noticeable while most girls you'd never see it).

My boyfriend, when it comes to body hair, is a werewolf, plain and simple (at 21, imagine that). He's really self conscious about it, and shaves his own underarms, arms, and chest. I hate it when he shaves his arms and chest though, as I think body hair on guys is nice! But I'm very grateful he shaves under his arms :)

rLcasaLme 2 months ago

Well, in my opinion, the best body part of a woman that attracts the opposite sex is her skin. Is it not?

Isn't it that the more skin revealed, the more the guy appreciates her physical beauty? Conceal some of them, they become less tempting.

That's why Muslim men prefer their wives be totally covered so that no man gets attracted by her.

Better cover a lady's skin with clothes than cover it with hair. It's very unattractive for ladies.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi TheMagician, good comment. Interesting what you said about your man. My Hubby is covered in hair too, even on his back. I wouldn't mind so much if he had his back waxed, but if he started shaving his arms and chest I would find that odd as I kind of expect a man to have hair there.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi rLcasaLme, a well thought out comment, clothes are definitely better than hair if a woman wants to cover up her skin.

Anamika S 2 months ago

I find Hairy Armpits a huge turn off. In my opinion, Women should not attempt to wear sleeveless in public if they cannot keep the armpits air waxed off.

Ciel Clark 2 months ago

I like my husband to let himself get really beardy and then shave. I have two men!

I was laughing at the European comments above. I did my senior year of high school as an exchange student in France and at a youth hostel somewhere a girl came up to me in the showers, raised her arm and said, "American!"

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

I totally agree Anamika and thanks for commenting.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi Ciel, I just loved you tale of the showers. Great introduction :)

Ciel Clark 2 months ago

I have to say I much preferred her introduction than the one I got later on the beach. I was sitting on the sand with a bunch of girlfriends and a guy came up. He was totally shaved, everywhere. A fact made obvious by our line of sight with us sitting and him standing wearing a transparent yellow banana hammock.

Good times!

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Yikes Ciel, sounds pretty scary to me LOL ;)

Nare Anthony 2 months ago

I personally don't find armpit hair particularly sexy, but it is natural, then it is beautiful. I do not keep if because of modern etiquette rules, but in older times when there was no razor or wax women had it, and men did love them without any discrimination. And the smell is quite natural.

Joe Blow 2 months ago

Rank and vile!

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi Nare, well I am not sure I agree that everything natural is necessarily beautiful, e.g. mole rats, worms, leeches etc. I also would say that the smell only becomes a problem when people don't wash enough. The bacteria on the sweat are what cause the smell, not the sweat itself. Therefore if there is a smell due to sweat that has not been washed away, it indicates a lower level of cleanliness standards and would be off-putting to most people (male or female). You could argue that people didn't bathe as much in the old days too, therefore no-one noticed the smell because they all smelled as bad as each other. Luckily we do wash frequently these days, so someone with smelly hairy armpits is quickly 'noticed' and not in a good way!

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks for comment Joe, I agree with you personally :)

fosginger 2 months ago

personally i think that women should shave their armpits, cause while some vury strange men might this sexy, i think you should not shave your armpits if you are out to punish your prince charming. and to make it perfect put old spice under your arms, just to top it off

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

LOL fosginger, now there is an idea :)

Ruby Glasser 2 months ago

For those of us who don't care either way, I think this is yet another indicator in choosing a partner. If you're open to what is healthy, natural, personal preference, gender equal, etc... it comes through in a lot of ways other than this. A woman who is confident enough to not shave probably is attracted to certain types of people and not others. Vive la difference!

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks for your thoughts Ruby. I appreciate the comment. :)

Heather1956 2 months ago

Hey, now! I just happen... Did you know in some cultures, not American, it's just fine to let the hair grow? Some think it is sexy. When I lived in Alaska I let my hair on my legs and armpits grow. It keeps you warm. Ha ha! Now that I am here in Arkansas, I still let the leg hairs grow and armpits. My hair grows slower and less (for me) now that I'm older (55). Some people have shaved their armpit hair and caused cysts to develop in their armpits. If continued to be a problem they have to have surgery and skin grafts done. True story.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi Heather, yes I do know in 'some' cultures it is the 'norm' to let it grow. I honestly doubt sweating is such an issue in a cold climate like Alaska. I really doubt armpit and leg hair will make a great deal of difference to our levels of 'warmth' because most body heat is lost through extremities like the top of the head, the fingers, ears etc.

I agree as you get older it grows less as my Mum can confirm this, but she still shaves and has never had a problem with cysts, (now in her 70's). To be honest the risk of cysts is so tiny that I doubt it is really a serious issue. Realistically out of the thousands of people you probably know or have known who have shaved, how many of them ended up with cysts, and out of those how many of them ended up needing skin grafts? I reckon we are more at risk of being struck by an asteroid (as individuals, not as a planet,) than we are of having a problem with a cyst or a skin graft as a result of shaving.

All that said thanks for your comments and your thoughts, even if I do not totally agree with you :)

NessaMetharam 2 months ago

I grew up thinking that armpit hair is gross. Yes, whenever I see my dad lift his arms up I go, 'EW! You have hair!' (that's me at age 7). :)

I respect people who believe that armpit hair on women is just fine and normal. I think that they're actually brave to keep it.

But, I'm a fan of hair free armpits!

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks NessaMetharam. I appreciate your thoughts on this subject :)

Gracenduta 2 months ago

Hairy armpits are a turn off, but if you cant shave them, then don't wear sleeveless tops.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks for posting your thoughts Gracenduta, hope you also voted in the polls :)

Horatio Plot 2 months ago

Hum. Oh Misty, you've set the world on fire with this one. Most comments I've seen on a hub. I like shaved armpits and I like hairy armpits. I find both attractive. But if you asked me a different question, if you ask me if I found it a turn on, then I'd have to say yes. Hope that doesn't sound too kinky

KeithTax 2 months ago

What a unique topic. As a man, I prefer a woman without armpit hair, but is by no means a deal breaker. My preference/opinion is probably the result of seeing most women without armpit hair. It really is a personal choice for the woman and men should accept it.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

LOL Horatio, thanks for your honesty. I imagine a good few men find them nice because it is a fetish of theirs :)

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi Keith, personally I am in the shaven armpit camp too, but I agree it is a personal choice for the woman, however if she wants to meet her Prince Charming and him find her attractive I would recommend she shave her armpits ;)

Mamelody 2 months ago

The only place I accept hair on a woman is on her head. Anywhere else is a absolute NO-NO!

Brilliant hub.

Slightly Bonkers 2 months ago

It is definitely NOT common for European woman to have hairy armpits! This is a myth!!! There are as many shaved or "au naturel" woman in Europe as in America in fact anywhere in the world. There are pro's and con's to this topic all over the world. Let's not generalize please!

Lady Guinevere 2 months ago

I didn't read all the comment. Personally I don't like hairy armpits. Voted up, of course. I also pinned it.

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks Mamelody, I totally appreciate your input :)

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks Slightly Bonkers, I completely agree that suggesting in Europe not shaving armpits is normal, is guilty of creating stereotypes that are incorrect.

Thanks Debbie, great to see you here and thanks for 'pinning' this too :)

I don't like armpit hair so I wax mine off but I wish more people were accepting of it..that way we don't have to hide/shave/wax it so often. One less thing to worry about in our beauty regimen ;D ;D

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Hi Stella, fair point, although I reckon I would still shave either way :)

Linkusbless 2 months ago

Ever since I learnt that pubic hair on women was a sign of their sexual maturity and so was seen by Rennaissance artists as 'wrong', or dangerous, or unattractive, I rebelled.

I last shaved my armpits in 1989 after not having done so for a while and it was so uncomfortable I swore I'd never do it again. I do however use hair trimmers to keep it reasonably short. I do shave my legs (when we get a summer) as I like the idea of wearing highheels and strappy sandals and concede that hairy legs and highheels does look odd--probably because high heels are odd!

I was talking to a male friend about how he would feel about having to 'put on a face' before he went out the door--everyday. He looked at me as if I were mad.

I really don't like the trend towards rendering grown women as pre-pubescent children by making them completely shiny and hairless. I think it's a bit sick.

This is quite an interesting read.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/fashion/2012/mar/24/how-

mistyhorizon2003 2 months ago

Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts on the subject here Linkusbless. I personally would hope that the hairless trend was not intended (for most of us) to look like 'pre-pubescent ' children, but was more to make us feel clean, fresh and 'tidy'.

It is great to be independent and rebel about something you feel strongly about, and I admire the fact you did, (and do.) The problem I would have myself is weighing up whether I would be comfortable knowing that in general I was considered less attractive as a result, and was reducing my chances of securing any interest from a member of the opposite sex who I might really find attractive as a potential partner. Apart from this I also have issues with the appearance of body hair on women even as a woman myself as you probably gathered from reading this article.

Linkusbless 7 weeks ago

I just heard on the radio, that the numbers of bedbugs and pubic lice have increased dramatically in the last 5-10 years in some of our biggest, swishest, cities. One explanation was that pubic hair, acts as an early warning system that alerts you to creeping things 'down there' or I guess in your armpits. I know the hair on my arm has prevented me from being burnt on a couple of occasions--hair folicles are pretty sensitive. If there are rising numbers of utterly nudified young people traveling the world, blissfully unaware that they have tiny bugs crawling around their nether regions, it's no wonder these things are on the rise.

Do we think men should shave their armpits too? They already do their backs and chests and nuts. Clean armpits for men too? I'd like to advocate that men be pressured into spending a minimum twenty minutes every day in the morning looking into the mirror and worrying about whether they look alright. Every. Day.

I don't see any need for anyone to shave on their arms, only under their arms where sweat can get trapped. My Husband has a very hairy chest and back, but again he doesn't shave or wax those areas because they won't trap sweat either. I am sceptical about the pubic lice theory because they use pubic hair to lay their eggs in, so no hair means no lice, although in the very depths of the groin area you will probably still have hair where they could nest.

Love it!!! I don't care for women with hairy legs or face or belly, but anywhere else is a major turn on. I'm a beast, and I love female beasts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, fair enough M.D. each to their own :)

The lady at the top of this page has very hairy arm pits, just like a man, in fact hairier than some men, I don't think she has ever shaved in her life. My wife is the same, she thinks that shaving is just for men, she likes to stay sexy and natural. Great Hub.

Thanks almorr, I appreciate you commenting here :)

I recently stopped shaving. I don't know why I didn't do it before...I have no visible leg hair on the back of my legs or my whole thighs and sparse blonde hair on the front of them. I also have very downy underarm hair and definitely not as much as a guy. My fiance isn't sure he is going to like it when he comes home though. I wish women didn't feel obligated to shave and that more men liked it...It seems like such a trivial thing...I saw an unshaven girl playing soccer against another college which was known for their hippie culture, and I was fascinated...Don't find it unattractive at all!

Thanks for your feedback here Kittehcat :)

I personally do not care for armpit hair on women. I feel it makes them appear unkempt and not so classy. My boyfriend even shaves his underarms because he sweats excessively and feels that the hair "traps in the funk" but I don't know if I agree...

mistyhorizon2003 5 weeks ago

I agree it makes a woman appear unkempt (totally) Manda. Not sure about the man thing either, but on a women I think it loses them any trace of femininity when they are seen to have hairy armpits (or legs).

I love it, IMO real woman shoud have hair on pussy and armpits. Unfortunatelly to see that in polish cities is impossible :-(. When I have oportunity to watch hairy woman I become crazy wild animal :-p.

It's a cultural attitude taught to us. Was a time not too long ago that armpit hair was viewed as natural--because it is. It grown on everyone. But 'there's money in them thar razors and shave creams.' It's an off-shoot of skinny. "We are what we are and we ain't what we ain't." as John Prine sings. What next? Shall we shave everyone's head too as well as armpits of men and women? Maybe it relates to the "Little Boxes" syndrome. C'mon peoples! Can we like who we are and how we look? Next thing you know we'll all be wearing long sleeves and long pants year-round.

My good luck, I have never seen it ever on any ladies, must be horrible.

ziyena 3 weeks ago

To each their own, ya know.

I lived in Europe for 8 years.

As long as you don't smell like onions, it's ok by me :)

mistyhorizon2003 3 weeks ago

Hi maxravi, I reckon it looks horrible personally so agree with you :) Thanks for commenting :)

mistyhorizon2003 3 weeks ago

Hi ziyena, lol, well I have never known anyone smell like onions yet, but BO is actually far less appealing to me, and having smelled that on people with hairy pits I am all for shaving big time!

D. S. 3 weeks ago

Honestly, I would be really surpised if someone said they liked it lol

mistyhorizon2003 3 weeks ago

lol, scary though it is D.S. a lot of people have said that they do like it here in the comments. The votes on the polls also indicate that many people are okay with it and no doubt some of those actually like it. Scary I reckon !!

zippy 3 weeks ago

I dont feel like me when i shave. Its perfectly natural. It grows on men and women so I dont see why its become gender specific.

mistyhorizon2003 3 weeks ago

Thanks for commenting zippy, I personally feel unattractive and like I am 'letting myself go' if I fail to shave under my arms or my legs. Each to their own I guess!

Almorr 3 days ago

Recently during the warm weather, I noticed quite a few women in sleeveless dresses who did have hairy arm pits, however the majority of women I have seen shave their arm pits, it is up to the women to do what she wants.

mistyhorizon2003 3 days ago

Hi Almorr, thanks for commenting. Yes, it is up to the woman as you say, although I do strongly believe that in this day and age making the choice to leave armpits hairy (for a woman) is also making a choice to be less attractive to both men and other women. Not a good move for someone who is single and wants to maximise their chances of meeting 'Mr Right'.
